DHL unions plan for election success in West Africa
DHL workers in Senegal and Cote D `Ivoire met together this week to plan their forthcoming organising campaigns in the Works Council elections. Activists from SNPTP (Senegal) and SYNAPOSTEL - CI (Cote D `Ivoire) have only weeks to prepare a campaign to win all the seats in the elections and thus consolidate and strengthen the unions in this important company. DHL is a global company with contracts all over the world and in Africa. These elections represent a strategic opportunity for UNI affiliates to increase their influence and presence in the company.
Hosted by UNI Africa the meetings represented the opportunity to study similar successful campaigns for Works Council elections in Africa, to incorporate some of those tactics into the two campaigns here. The activists looked at the Morocco Call Centre campaign and the Orange workers campaign in Madagascar and then drew up their own plans for their campaigns.
The activists were joined by the General Secretary of SYNAPOSTEL - CI Arsene Ahoke who welcomed all to Grand Bassam and said
`Thanks to UNI this is a good opportunity to make sure we win these important elections. I like the work the activists have done. I am sure we will be successful in these elections!`
Works Council elections are taking place in late December and early January. The two unions are hoping to celebrate their success at the UNI Africa Regional Congress in Dakar in March 2017
