The Banking Union in Sri Lanka joins the UNI Global Union
UNI World Executive Board at its meeting held on 16-17 November 2016, in Nyon, approved the application for affiliation submitted by Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union (CBEU), a national union representing banking industry employees in Sri Lanka. CBEU is one of the leading independent trade unions in Sri Lanka representing over 27000 members in twenty banks.
CBEU invited Jayasri Priyalal, Regional Director for UNI Apro Finance sector activities; for a meeting on 5th January 2017, held in their headquarters in Colombo. Priyalal introduced the UNI and UNI Apro activities and the UNI Finance priorities to the CBEU executive committee members.
The CBEU solicited solidarity support to arrest the deteriorating employee relations culture in one of the leading private sector bank Hatton National Bank (HNB) in Sri Lanka. UNI Apro Finance assured solidarity support, in every way possible to improve the relations between the union officials and management in HNB.
