Indonesia: Confronting the challenges of changing industrial relations in the digital economy age
UNI Apro participated in a Conference on “Labour 4.0 - Digital Economy and its Implications for Employment” held on the 26th and 27th April in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was co-organised by the Ministry of Manpower Indonesia, Coordinating Ministry of Human Development and Culture and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Germany. The conference was opened by Ms. Haiyani Rumondang, Director General for Industrial Relations and Social Security Development, Ministry of Manpower.
Bro. Christopher Ng, Regional Secretary of UNI Apro was one of the panellists invited to deliver a presentation on the pressing need to prepare the workforce for the future in the face of rapid technological changes under the fourth industrial revolution.
Bro. Chris stressed that in the haste to prepare for the future, it is important not to lose sight of how workforce preparations and adjustments must be undertaken in an inclusive, equitable and sustainable manner. He urged for a fair digital global compact to be developed that takes into account workers protection while pursuing economic growth in the new digital era.
