Palestinian ICTS unions prepare for bargaining
On 8-10 August, 22 union activists from UNI’s Palestinian ICTS affiliates gathered in Amman, Jordan, for a three-day workshop. The unionists, primarily representing workers in the Jawwal and Paltel companies – the leading mobile and fixed line company in Palestine, respectively – received training on organizing for collective bargaining purposes and the bargaining process.
The workshop followed a mission by UNI ICTS to Palestine in March 2017, and is part of UNI’s strong commitment to supporting the Palestinian trade union movement.
The World President of UNI ICTS, Andy Kerr from CWU in the UK, was present in Amman and delivered part of the training. He said that “the workshop was an excellent opportunity to provide concrete support and solidarity to our Palestinian brothers and sisters”, and commended the activists for their dedication to building a strong union movement in the country.
The unionists were welcomed to Amman by UNI’s Jordanian ICTS affiliate, the General Trade Union of Workers in Public Services and Free Occupations.
