UNI Americas Youth striving for better labour conditions
Decent work for young people is a fundamental element of UNI’s work in the Americas. Eliminating temporary, precarious and informal work promotes sustainable development, growth and wellbeing.
In Medellin, 30 youth representatives from 9 countries and 20 trade unions met to tackle the pressing issues and challenges facing young people today. Speaking at the UNI Americas Conference, Neri Marset, President of UNI Americas Youth said, “Thinking that the management of the present is the responsibility of ‘adults’ and that the future is the responsibility of young people is an erroneous concept. History has shown us that youth is the engine of change.”
“It’s time to fight back – young people cannot continue to accept precarious, temporary and informal work. Young people are able to generate change and transformation and have a lot to bring to the table for trade unions.”
“We must be on the front foot in this fight, and strengthen the links that already exist between us, as well as build new international solidarity and unity.”
