UNI World Executive Board pledges full support for CWU workers
CWU Deputy General Secretary & UNI ICTS World President Andy Kerr updated the UNI World Executive Board on the union's successful ballot for industrial action.
The Communications Workers Union in the UK called a successful ballot for industrial action of its 110,000 members in Royal Mail. This was the first ballot vote carried out under the new Tory legislation and lead to an impressive turnout of 89% of membes voting 'yes'.
The campaing was based on four pillars: for better salaries, pensions, working conditions for postal workers in the UK.
Negotiations to obtain an agreement with the Royal Mail failed. As a result, the CWU has called a strike for 19th October 2017 folllowing the successful ballot result.
The UNI WEB expressed its full solidarity and support for our colleagues in the CWU. UNI Global Union will support their struggle with all possible means.
