Visit by SASBO-BANKSETA delegation to Singapore, 25-28 Sept 2017
UNI Apro hosted a delegation from the South African Society of Bank Officials (SASBO) and Banking Sector Education & Training Authority (BANKSETA). The delegation is led by Bro Malesela Moses Lekota, President of Finance Sector Union South Africa (SASBO).
Over the course of their visit, they also met with DBS bank management, DBS staff union, SBEU, SBOA and SIEU.
The delegation’s last stop was with the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF). The South African delegation was keen to learn the different skills and competencies development training courses introduced by IBF to impart future skills amongst the banking and finance industry employees in Singapore. Mdm. Lydia Wee, CEO of IBF and Mr. Wong Choon Wen, Deputy Director Marketing Outreach, facilitated the discussions.
Bro Malesela thanked UNI Apro for making the arrangements for their visit. He said that one of the key takeaways for them is how the Singapore government is sponsoring the training to encourage people to acquire more skills in anticipation of the impact that will come as a result of digitalisation.
The Singapore visit is part of SASBO’s global study on the impact of digitalisation on the financial industry in South Africa. The study’s outcome will help shape their eventual recommendations to the South African government to prepare the workforce to cope with the challenges of FINTECH’s and digitalisation transformation in the finance industry.
