UNI Americas together with the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA-CSA), and with the support of the FRIEDRICH EBERT FOUNDATION, started the program titled “TOOLS AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TO FACE THE CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS AND THE CHILEAN LABOUR REALITY” last July 15, 2021, in which 50 leaders of Chilean unions from different sectors of the national economy are participating.

This program, coordinated and conducted by ICT ALLIANCE THE INSTITUTE FOR CONTINUOUS TRAINING and the UNIVERSITY OF OVIEDO, has the collabouration of prominent professionals, such as Nelson Pozo Silva, lawyer, minister of the Constitutional Court, José Luis Ugarte Cataldo, lawyer, Professor of labour law from the Diego Portales University, and Carlos Fuentealba Maldonado, lawyer, specialist in labour law.

Essentially, the program aims to train participants in constitutional matters and propose issues of the world of work in terms of the principles of the new Magna Carta, such as Labour Law and Protection, Collective Bargaining, Right to Strike, Labour Inspection, Trade Union Freedom, among others, based on the experience of trade union organizations globally, regionally and locally.

“We want to be part of the whole process, in all the stateges that are necessary in this constitutional process”, said Marcio Monzane, UNI Americas Regional Secretary. The opening ceremony was also attended by Bárbara Figueroa, Secretary for Economic Policy and Sustainable Development of the TUCA, and José Luis Ugarte, from the University of Oviedo, who highlighted the attendance of highly prestigious international organizations. They also stated that this program is “the opportunity for Chilean unions to join the national constitutional debate with their own proposals”, and that they will be “strongly supported technically and academically to play a leading role in this process, and thus fully participate in the dialogue with the Constitutional Convention, Parliament and Citizens”.
