UNI Global Union: Amazon’s Snooping Affair Should Concern Us All

The following statement on Amazon’s snoooping affair should be attributed to Christy Hoffman General Secretary of UNI Global Union.

“The recent information about Amazon’ s willingness to spy on and attack workers’ rights provides a glimpse into how deep-seated its anti-union ideology is,” said Christy Hoffman General Secretary of UNI Global Union.

“Freedom of association and collective bargaining are enabling rights, embedded in the ILO Constitution, and workers demanding union representation should not be considered a threat, grouped together with terrorists and hostile state actors. It is truly scary that these schemes are only what has been made public, but it is encouraging that despite the company’s dirty tricks, Amazon workers continue to stand for their rights. We are proud to stand alongside them.”

UNI Global Union represents more than 20 million workers from over 150 different countries in the fastest growing service sectors in the world. UNI and our affiliates in all regions are driven by the responsibility to ensure these jobs are decent and workers’ rights are protected, including the right to join a union and collective bargaining
