This World Post Day on Friday 9 October, UNI Global Union will be paying a virtual tribute to postal workers who have been keeping us connected during the pandemic.

The online event organized by UNI Post & Logistics, will bring together union leaders from all corners of the globe to discuss post as an essential service and the role unions in times of crisis. It will be broadcast on Zoom and streamed live on Facebook from 2 to 4pm CEST.

UNI Post&Logistics will also launch a new report on Lessons Learned from COVID-19, which details cases of best practice by unions during the pandemic.

UNI General Secretary, Christy Hoffman, said:

“This year, World Post Day takes on extra significance as postal workers provide a lifeline to millions during the pandemic – taking on new services, such as delivering groceries, medicines and masks, and keeping a watch on the vulnerable and elderly. Now it is our job as unions to safeguard these essential services and protect affordable, accessible postal services for all. This World Post Day we recognize and pay respect to postal workers around the world and thank them for their consistent and dedicated service during these challenging times.”

UNI Post&Logistics World President, Dave Ward, general secretary of the Communication Workers Union in the UK, said:

“This year, more than any other has shown the value and commitment of postal workers across the globe. From keeping countries connected to going above and beyond the call of duty to help in every community, today is a day to recognize the efforts of millions of key workers – thank you to every single postal worker.”

Cornelia Berger, Head of UNI Post&Logistics, added:

“Today, we demand the recognition and respect postal workers deserve through good salaries and decent working conditions. During this pandemic, not only have postal services been essential but so have unions too. The stronger the union, the better protection for workers. UNI Post&Logistics is supporting postal unions globally in facilitating cooperation and exchange of knowledge and best practices, to ensure postal workers everywhere get a better deal.”
