ISS Shop Stewards plan next year of action
The ISS shop stewards network had an extremely successful conference in Brussels last week. Hosted by UNI Global Union and the European Trade Union Institute the meeting atrracted 19 delegates from 12 different unions right across Europe, from Belgium, Ireland, UK, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. The meeting was also attended by Rob Lumens the Vice Chair of the European Works Council.
In a lively and busy meeting the delegates agreed to continue with an even bigger International Justice Day event on June 15th 2015 - the 25th Anniversary of th eoriginal `Justice for Janitors`campaign in the US. They have agreed a full strategy to get contractors to sign the Cleaners Charter in order to raise standards in the sector. This will be taken to the European Social Dialogue Committee and to the ISS European Works Council.
The meeting also sent solidarity to ISS workers on strike in the UK, members of RMT and GMB at Woolwich Hospital. The meeting also received a visit from strikers from the BMS dispute on the railways. Finally a message of support was agreed for Turkish trade union Guvenlik-Is who had 9 members dismissed and to the Greek Cleaners who continue to take strike action in a dispute about austerity measures.
