The union S.M.OMA, which organises workers employed by Orange Madagascar, has completed 2 days of training and embarked upon an organising campaign in the city of Antananarivo. The training has focused on the need for the union to increase its density, improve its communications with workers and establish a strong bargaining relationship with the company, based on the terms of the Global Agreement between Orange and UNI Global union.
The first day was a great success, with 51 new members signed up and 23 potential new union activists identified. 114 workers were spoken to by the 16 activists deployed by the union. The blitz action continues until Wednesday and then the union will move the next phase of its campaign.
