Oranges for 97 new members at Orange!
The telecomm union S.M: OMA finished its three day blitz in Antananarivero, capital city of Madagascar, by giving out 400 oranges to the workers as a `thank you`from the activists. Each orange had a smiley face drawn on it with a message from the union and were given out before the morning shift started at 8.00am. This marked the final day of action for the 16 activists who have undergone 2 and half days of training and then spent 2 and a half days putting their training into practice. They have recruited 97 new members this week and have spoken one to one with over 200 workers, have identified 49 new potential leaders and are now going to roll out their programme into the other areas of Madagascar. The union now has 38% density and is aiming to achieve 60% before the end of February 2015.
A meeting was held with HR today at which the union has requested facilities under the terms and spirit of the Global Agreement and in line with the provsisions of the law in Madagascar.
Support for the Project was delivered by a combination of UNI Africa, UNI ICTS sector and UNI SCORE
