On 7 November 2014, trade union delegates of Crédit Mutuel Nord Europe met in Brussels following an invitation of UNI Europa Finance. French and Belgian trade unions organising in the group had sent a letter requesting the setting up of a European Works Council (EWC) in September. By law, the company has to convene a constitutive meeting within six months. While waiting for management’s response, the trade unions concerned have formed a transnational trade union alliance. In their first meeting, UNI Europa Finance explained the European legislation, more specifically the EWC directive 2009/38/EC and the importance of good coordination and communication across borders. UNI Europa Finance represents 1,5 million workers in banking and insurance.
