In a powerful statement<\/a> released today, more than 400 trade union leaders, elected officials, scholars and former presidents from over 20 countries \u2013 including UNI Global Union, UNI Americas and many of our affiliate unions \u2013 are calling for a robust defence of Colombian democracy in the face of a \u201csoft coup\u201d against the country\u2019s first-ever progressive government.<\/p>\r\n Since elected in August 2022, the administration of President Gustavo Petro and Vice President Francia M\u00e1rquez has advanced a series of ambitious, necessary changes to the nation\u2019s laws. For example, the government is currently pushing through labour reforms that would guarantee workers\u2019 fundamental human rights in the country.<\/p>\r\n
