This week, as the world marks the 78th anniversary of the devastating nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, UNI Global Union stands in solemn remembrance of the 225,000 lives lost\u00a0in 1945, and all those who suffered the long-term consequences of radiation and trauma.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n UNI also calls for renewed urgency in the fight to ensure a nuclear-weapon-free world in the wake of troubling threats and increasing instability around the world.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u201cWe mark this somber anniversary by remembering the those who lost their lives, lost their families or who were irrevocably harmed. We must fight to ensure that weapons like these are never used again,\u201d said Christy Hoffman, UNI Global Union General Secretary. \u201cIn a world facing increasing turmoil and a growing nuclear threat \u2014 especially with the war in Ukraine \u2014 the call for peace and an end to these weapons is more urgent than ever.\u201d No\u00a0<\/p>\r\n UNI Global Union has been a vocal advocate for a world free from nuclear weapons, recognizing that their existence is fundamentally incompatible with human rights.
