{"id":11186,"date":"2023-08-25T17:41:43","date_gmt":"2023-08-25T15:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniglobalunion.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=11186"},"modified":"2023-08-25T20:25:18","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T18:25:18","slug":"finance-unions-rise-together","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/uniglobalunion.org\/news\/finance-unions-rise-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Finance unions rise together in Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Representatives of finance unions in 65 countries gathered for the UNI Global Union Finance conferences in Philadelphia on 23 and 24 August to elect new leadership and adopted an action plan that tackles the key issues facing bank and insurance workers worldwide.<\/p>\r\n<p>Trade unions met for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-europa.org\/news\/6th-europa-finance-conference\/\">UNI Europa Finance conference<\/a> on 23 August to be joined by their colleagues across the globe the next day for a packed agenda that focused on collective bargaining, sustainable finance, Just Transition, and the use of technology in the finance sector.<\/p>\r\n<p><em>\u201cThe agenda of this meeting reflects the new era in which we operate and the need to continue to build union power within finance,\u201d <\/em>said <strong>UNI General Secretary Christy Hoffman <\/strong>in her opening remarks. <em>\u201cIn all of these areas UNI Finance is on the frontlines. These enormous challenges are always better confronted collectively, rather than alone. And UNI Finance has been working hard to develop global positions on these issues with successes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>The conference heard from experiences of wins and challenges, threats and opportunities of affiliates in all UNI regions under the themes of the conference.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Union representatives from \ud83c\udde7\ud83c\uddf7Brazil, \ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddf0 Denmark, \ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddec Nigeria and \ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf5 Japan share their different experiences of how technology is transforming the finance sector around the world, particularly through Fintech, AI and remote work.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UNIRisingTogether?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#UNIRisingTogether<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7xVSvGE6Yd\">pic.twitter.com\/7xVSvGE6Yd<\/a><\/p>&mdash; UNI Global Union (@uniglobalunion) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/uniglobalunion\/status\/1694805675786817940?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div><\/p>\r\n<p>The global finance conference adopted a new <strong>action plan<\/strong> under four pillars:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><strong>Strong Finance Unions Rising Together<\/strong> \u2013 building union power through organizing, collective bargaining and holding multinational companies accountable.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Strong Finance Unions for a Sustainable Economy and a Just Transition<\/strong> \u2013 decent jobs and sustainable finance, climate change and justice<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>The Use of Technology in the Finance Sector \u2013<\/strong> training, healthy working conditions, privacy and data rights<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Democracy and Human Rights<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddef&quot;For us, our environment is our greatest asset. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ClimateChange?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ClimateChange<\/a> is having a direct impact on our Environment.
