Just days after Make Amazon Pay Day<\/a><\/u> \u2013 a global day of action with work stoppages in Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States \u2013 the UK\u2019s GMB union announced today<\/a>\u00a0that workers at Amazon\u2019s new flagship Birmingham-area\u00a0fulfilment centre are joining the union\u2019s\u00a0strike wave.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n In total, 100 per cent of workers voted for industrial action at the fulfilment centre in Minworth, which opened its doors in October 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n More than 1,000 Amazon workers walked off the job last week as part of GMB Union\u2019s Black Friday action at the retail giant. They were joined by representatives from across Europe and North America\u00a0\u2013 UNI, the Teamsters, ver.di\u00a0and FILCAMS CGIL. The GMB has been carrying out a series of strikes at the company in recent weeks at several of its fulfilment centres.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n \u201cAfter Black Friday strikes last week, we\u2019re seeing industrial action snowballing and Amazon is surely set to face a winter of strike chaos,\u201d said\u00a0Amanda Gearing, GMB Organizer.\u00a0<\/b>\u201cAmazon Minworth opened its doors just weeks ago and workers have already voted to join strike action.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n Strike dates for this new facility will be announced in the coming weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n \u201cAfter a month on the job, Minworth workers have\u00a0already\u00a0had enough not earning the wage they deserve, of not feeling safe on the job and of not having the protections of a collective agreement,\u201d said\u00a0Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of UNI Global Union<\/b>. \u201cWe welcome them to the global union family and will stand with them as they take collect action for the pay, conditions\u00a0and respect at work they need.
