***UPDATE*** The law has entered into force in Bosnia and Herzegovina and workers will enjoy the first work-free Sunday on 17 November 2024!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n <\/p>\r\n C<\/span>ommerce workers across <\/span>Bosnia<\/span> and <\/span>Herzegovina<\/span> and their union<\/span> are calling on the Parliament of <\/span>the <\/span>Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to pass <\/span>a<\/span> law that will close <\/span>shops on Sundays and secure national holidays. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n UNI\u2019s<\/span> Bosnia<\/span>n <\/span>affiliate,<\/span> the <\/span>Commerce Trade Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (STBIH)<\/span>,<\/span> has been campaigning for over <\/span>ten<\/span> years to change the legislation to secure free Sundays and national holidays for commerce workers. <\/span>Their campaign <\/span>got\u00a0<\/span> Article 17 on <\/span>\u201c<\/span>shop working hours<\/span>\u201d<\/span> included in the<\/span> upcoming<\/span> Bill on Internal Commerce, which the <\/span>parliament will discuss on<\/span> 22 October 2024.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u201cWe have been advocating for this law for <\/span>such a<\/span> long <\/span>time,<\/span>\u201d said Mersiha Besirovic, the President of STBIH<\/span>.<\/span> \u201cI hope our <\/span>p<\/span>arliament will <\/span>finally <\/span>put the<\/span> interests and needs of commerce workers <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>who make more <\/span>than<\/span> half of the working population in the private sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>as a priority and grant them same rights that their colleagues in <\/span>the public<\/span> sector have<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Under the current legislation, commerce workers <\/span>are guaranteed<\/span> one paid day off a week, but <\/span>that day<\/span> may change every week<\/span>, m<\/span>aking it difficult for workers to schedule their lives and spend time with family<\/span>. Once <\/span>the parliament adopts this law<\/span>, <\/span>commerce shops will be closed on Sundays<\/span>,<\/span> and commerce workers will be able to enjoy <\/span>a regular <\/span>day of rest<\/span> on Sundays. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n
