{"id":27472,"date":"2025-03-25T14:20:23","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T13:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniglobalunion.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=27472"},"modified":"2025-03-25T15:02:21","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T14:02:21","slug":"union-power-secures-win-for-nike-workers-in-turkiye","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/uniglobalunion.org\/news\/union-power-secures-win-for-nike-workers-in-turkiye\/","title":{"rendered":"Union power secures win for Nike workers in T\u00fcrkiye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNI Global Union\u2019s Turkish affiliate, Koop-\u0130\u015f, has signed a new collective agreement with Nike, winning major improvements in wages, bonuses and benefits for workers in the company\u2019s stores.<\/p>\r\n<p>The win comes after workers threatened strike action at Nike\u2019s nine retail outlets in the country.<\/p>\r\n<p>The new two-year agreement, which runs from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2026, will be applied retroactively, and comes after the first-ever collective agreement with Nike in T\u00fcrkiye expired last year. The workers\u2019 unity and determined campaign has resulted in a contract that protects previous gains and makes significant advances.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Highlights of the new collective agreement:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><strong>Wage increases well above inflation<\/strong>, along with regular raises throughout the duration of the contract.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Correction of wage disparities<\/strong> between different job positions.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Boosts to bonuses and financial incentives<\/strong>, including travel, meal and seniority premiums.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Improved benefits for part-time workers<\/strong>, especially in travel and food allowances.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Increased annual leave<\/strong> beyond legal requirements.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Expanded employer-paid medical benefits<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Up to eight months\u2019 wage compensation in case of store closures<\/strong>, in addition to the legally mandated seniority payments.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Regular and necessary meetings<\/strong> between the union and employer to address disciplinary issues and dismissals.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>These wins come on top of key rights already secured in the previous agreement, including:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Guaranteed <strong>13th month salary<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Two days off per week<\/strong>, surpassing Turkish legal standards.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Reduced working hours to 40 per week<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Ongoing pay increases and financial incentives<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><em>&#8220;This success is a result of our union and members acting in unity and solidarity,\u201d<\/em> said <strong>Koop-\u0130\u015f President, Ey\u00fcp Alemdar,<\/strong> adding that it will bring hope to all workers in the retail sector, allowing them to look to the future with greater confidence.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>UNI Head of Commerce, Mathias Bolton, said: <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><em>\u201cThis is a strong example of what unions can achieve when workers stand together.
