The win follows Koop-is&#8217; successful negotiations with\u00a0H&amp;M collective in 2019\u00a0and is part of an ongoing effort to raise standards in Turkey\u2019s fashion retail sector.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cThe agreement we signed for Nike workers and the progress we have made will help to build union strength in the sector,\u201d\u00a0collective said\u00a0Eyup Alemdar, the President of Koop-Is.\u00a0\u201cOur union has become the hope for thousands of precarious retail workers who work long hours with low pay but without job security.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0The collective agreement will be in place for three years and\u00a0provides workers with:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Regular pay rises, along with other financial incentives<\/li>\r\n\t<li>13th month salary\u00a0<\/li>\r\n\t<li>2 days off a week rather than the 1 day a week stipulated by Turkish law\u00a0<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Weekly working hours of 40 hours rather than the 45 stipulated by Turkish law\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>\u201cKoop-Is is helping transform the retail sector in Turkey and helping workers change their lives,\u201d said\u00a0Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of UNI Global Union. \u201cThese Nike employees are part of a global wave of young workers organizing to demand dignity on the job, fair wages and decent working conditions, and we stand with them as they continue fighting for decent conditions in their stores and beyond.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0With almost\u00a04 million commerce workers in Turkey, the country is\u00a0the second biggest\u00a0commerce\u00a0employment hub\u00a0in\u00a0Europe after Germany.\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNI Global Union\u2019s affiliate in Turkey, Koop-Is, signed the first ever collective agreement for Nike workers in the country.\u00a0\u00a0 The agreement, which will cover 263 workers in 11 Nike stores, makes major advances regarding wages and work\/life balance.
