{"id":6405,"date":"2022-03-23T17:05:26","date_gmt":"2022-03-23T17:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniglobalunion.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=6405"},"modified":"2023-06-20T10:15:49","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T08:15:49","slug":"former-uni-gs-philip-jennings-wins-la-cotes-personality-of-the-decade-award","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/uniglobalunion.org\/news\/former-uni-gs-philip-jennings-wins-la-cotes-personality-of-the-decade-award\/","title":{"rendered":"FORMER UNI GS PHILIP JENNINGS WINS LA COTE\u2019S \u201cPERSONALITY OF THE DECADE\u201d AWARD"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">Jennings, who led UNI for 18 years as general secretary, built the organization into a powerhouse for workers\u2019 rights and has been a lifelong champion for peace and working people the world over.<\/span><span class=\"x_eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">Over a long and distinguished career dedicated to strengthening trade union power, Jennings became known as a global warrior for workers\u2019 rights, peace and justice.<\/span><span class=\"x_eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">\u201cIt<\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">is truly an honour to win<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">this\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">award,\u201d said Jennings. \u201c<\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Although I was not born here, I\u2019m immensely happy and proud to call La C\u00f4te home.\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cI do not think we would have been able to make such a global impact\u202fwithout being rooted in such a vibrant, international and welcoming community.\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">As Co-President of the International Peace Bureau, Jennings took the opportunity to call for all actors to push for peace in Ukraine.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">After retiring as UNI General Secretary at the Liverpool World Congress in 2018, Jennings has been busy \u2013 becoming a powerful advocate for peace as the Co-President of the International Peace Bureau, pushing for human rights in sport as the Director of the Centre for Sports and Human Rights and a voice for workers as member of the ILO Global Commission on the Future of Work.<\/span><span class=\"x_eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div>\r\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">We are proud to congratulate Philip for winning this award. He\u00a0has always been dedicated to building strong roots between UNI and the La C\u00f4te\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\">community,<\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span
