Brother Shankar Lamichhane, President of UNI Global Union\u2019s affiliate, UNICTS Nepal, has been elected to represent over 3,800 workers on Nepal Telecom\u2019s Board of Directors for the next two years.<\/p>\r\n
Speaking of his win, Lamichhane, who is also President of the UNI Nepal Liaison Council, said:<\/p>\r\n
\u201cI am extremely grateful and happy for the vote of confidence from so many of my compatriots in the company. It is a heavy responsibility, but I will do my best to raise our workers\u2019 voices on the Board. My immediate focus is to resume our collective bargaining agreement implementation and address the currently constrained telecom workers\u2019 rights.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\r\n UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary, Rajendra Acharya, expressed congratulations on behalf of UNI:<\/p>\r\n \u00a0\u201cWe are very proud of Shankar\u2019s election. He is a veteran unionist who has been instrumental in bringing positive changes in the Nepalese union movement, particularly to the UNI-affiliated sectors and in his company, by introducing and promoting a culture of dialogue and partnership based on effective representation of workers in the decision-making. I wish him all the success in his new role.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\r\n Kyoichi Ando, UNI President of ICTS for the Asia-Pacific region, conveyed his compliments, adding:<\/p>\r\n \u201cMy warmest congratulations to Brother Shankar!
