The survey conducted by KASZ union of Hungary in 2021 revealed that violence and harassment fuelled by the pandemic was a weekly if not a daily experience for commerce workers.<\/p>\r\n
According to the survey:<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 20% of respondents reported that they experienced physical violence from a customer.<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 40% of workers did not report the incident and 86% of the workers who reported the incident did not get any support from their managers.<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 87% of workers said they experienced verbal abuse by a customer.<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 On being asked \u201cHow often are customers rude to you?\u201d 9% said \u201cnever\u201d, 33% said \u201conce a month\u201d, 29% said \u201conce a week\u201d, 14% said \u201conce a day\u201d and 15% said \u201cmore than once a day\u201d.<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 While 19% of respondents said yes when they were asked if they were respected at work; 39% said \u201cno\u201d and 42% said \u201cmaybe\u201d.<\/p>\r\n

In the survey, KASZ asked participants \u201cWhat was the rudest thing that a customer said to you?\u201d Here are some answers:<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cI will wait for you outside and I will beat you.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cI am going to slit your throat, you fuc.ing bi.ch.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cCommerce workers are the bottom of the society.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cYou don\u2019t deserve a \u2018hello\u2019, because you are a sh.t!\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cYou are a slave.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cYou have to lick my a.s; this is your job.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
\u00b7 \u201cYou are all losers because you work in a supermarket.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
