Gender equality in the audiovisual sector: national conversations

For the last two years, the social partners of the European Audiovisual Social Dialogue Committee have been working together on the topic of gender equality and diversity.

Through their large partnership, those organisations – the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF), European Audiovisual Production (CEPI), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Association of Commercial Television in Europe (ACT), the Association of European Radios (AER), the International Federation of Actors (FIA), the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the International Federation of Musicians (FIM) and UNI MEI – have had the opportunity to map the situation across the EU and to identify good practices from different sector stakeholders.

As they are reaching the end of the project, they are now organising national events to share the results of their work and get the conversation going in different EU countries.

The two first national conversations were held in Helsinki on Monday 13 January and in Zagreb on Thursday 30 June hosted respectively by YLE, the Finnish public broadcaster, and by the Trade Union of Croatian journalists.

Two more events will be organised in March in Italy and Romania.

A final conference will be held in Brussels on the 30th of March.

This project, led by UNI MEI, is key to push the presence of women and of a broader diversity of profiles in the European audiovisual sector, and to promote initiatives in the field of the prevention of violence and harassment. A handbook, highlighting the good practices identified in the course of the project, will be published in the coming weeks.
