The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the global economy on a grand scale, and the casino industry is no exception. UNI Gaming believes the industry could recover and develop only if there is tripartite dialogue (with unions, government institutions and casino companies) and unions representing sector employees are engaged in safe reopening negotiations.

On November 12, FENASICAJH, the National Federation of Casino Unions and Hotels of Chile, reached an agreement with ENJOY, one of the main gaming operators in the country. The key elements of the agreement are commitment to safegueard jobs, to establish “priority lists” when rehiring and to include the Gaming Federation in consultations when applying health regulations at workplaces.

That is a great victory for the union  and all casino workers in Chile since some of the casinos will be opening as well. Casinos were shut and people were without work for months. FENASICAJH has been actively mobilising its members and sector workers under the #sintrabajonohayjuego campaign (There is no gaming withour jobs).

The gaming industry in Chile is relatively big employer with 26 casinos throughout the country with around 12.000 direct and about 20.000 indirect jobs.

UNI Gaming is committed to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the key employers and regulators on safe and responsible gaming and encourage all gaming companies to negotiate safe reopening with the unions.
