UNI: “Amazon’s union busting tactics are once again on display for the world to watch”

“With the suspension of a least 50 Staten Island workers last night, Amazon’s union busting tactics are once again on display for the world to watch. We have seen this movie before. When workers join together in union to demand what’s right–in this case basic health and safety measures–Amazon refuses to recognize or engage with unions unless forced,” said Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of UNI Global Union.

“Around the world, unions stand in solidarity with workers in Staten Island. These workers have the right to protest to improve their jobs and have already overcome Amazon’s despicable multimillion dollar campaign to kill the worker-lead union effort. All these workers are asking from the tech giant is to cease awful, unsafe practices immediately, respect the law and negotiate to make their jobs better. Workers, customers and lawmakers deserve to know why Amazon continues to ignore the workers’ demands and suppress their rights.”
