IKEA Malaysia Union signs first Collective Agreement with IKEA Malaysia

The IKANO Handel Workers Union Malaysia secured and signed its first collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with IKEA Malaysia, officially registered as IKANO Handel Sendirian Berhad (Sdn Bhd), today, 22 May 2023.

UNI Malaysian Liaison Committee President Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal and UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary Rajendra Acharya witnessed the signing ceremony held at the IKEA headquarters in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.

IKANO Handel’s management was represented by Mr Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Manager, and Ms Caroline Lye Neo, HR Manager (Retail) IKEA Malaysia, while the union was represented by Sister Suhaida Shamsuddin, President, and Sister Jasmera Ismail, Secretary.

The CBA is valid for three years, from the 1^st of May 2023 to the 31^st of August 2026. 

Sis Suhaida Shamsuddin said,

“We are happy that the CBA is successfully and smoothly concluded today. It will motivate our members, and we look forward to better cooperation between the employees and the management to make IKEA Malaysia a great workplace.”

UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary Rajendra Acharya congratulated the IKANO management and union for concluding the CBA. He also praised the UNI MLC:

“I am delighted to witness the CBA signing today, which was made possible by the unstinting support provided by UNI MLC, which guided the union through the negotiations in the spirit and principles of Smart Partnership Industrial Relations.”
