The following statement on Amazon’s decision to leave Quebec, can be attributed to Christy Hoffman, General Secretary of UNI Global Union.
“It is disgraceful that Amazon has decided to close its warehouses in Quebec, rather than go to the bargaining table. The company wants to scare workers across the world away from organizing. But this desperate move will only bring more attention to the fact that- just as it does in Germany and New York- Amazon will take desperate moves to avoid bargaining. Workers and their allies everywhere are watching and will fight back. This fight is not just about the 1,700 jobs lost in Quebec—it is about defending the dignity of work everywhere.”
Representing more than 20 million workers in 150 countries, UNI Global Union is driven by the responsibility to ensure skills and service jobs are decent jobs and that workers’ rights are protected, including the right of union representation and collective bargaining.
