UNI Americas signs new agreement with UPAEP to promote cooperation, social dialogue and sustainable development

This week, UNI Americas and the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain, and Portugal (UPAEP) signed an agreement to cooperate on promoting social dialogue and guaranteeing the sustainable development of postal services in the Americas.

Both organisations agreed to tackle the challenges set by the development of new technologies, digitalisation and changes in the postal sector. The agreement promises to improve and develop the abilities of postal workers as well as to focus on training and education measures, including the promotion and development of responsible data protection practices.

Additionally, both parties promised to facilitate the exchange of experiences, information and good practices. The agreement will encourage a coordinated response system to manage adjustments and promote new postal services and activities.

President of UNI Americas Post and Logistics (P&L) Jim Sauber stressed the importance of this agreement saying, “Thanks to this agreement we can promote social dialogue throughout South and Central America. We look forward to working with UPAEP in areas of common interest – such as training of postal workers, the adoption of good labour practices in the region, as well as innovation and sustainability.”

Sauber also invited the General Secretary of UPAEP, Roberto Carvanna, to the regional meeting of UNI Americas Postal and Logistics in Lima next year.

Briceida González, Regional Director of UNI Americas P&L, said, “We hope that this agreement strengthens the collaboration and partnership between UPAEP and UNI Americas. Through constant and open dialogue, we can discuss important issues such as how we prepare workers to face the changes brought about by new technologies and services.”

The pact will replace the one signed in 2012 and will be in effect until December 2021.
