UNI MEI supports campaign and strike of French media and culture unions

For a fair, social and inclusive pension system!

The media and culture federations of CGT, CFDT and FO and their confederations are on strike this week and are calling for a day of mobilisation on December 17.

The international community of media and culture workers in UNI Global Union and its 140 affiliates representing more than 400,000 workers express their solidarity and support to French colleagues in the sector and to all those who are campaigning for a just social and inclusive pension system.

The uncertainties associated with the  so-called point system is a real danger for all workers in the sector. The French government’s proposal risks accentuating inequalities between women and men and penalising colleagues with atypical contracts and careers.

With the introduction of the concept of an “age pivot”, the government is penalising all those who started working at a young age and colleagues who find themselves unemployed at the end of their careers.

UNI MEI expresses its support for the actions of our French affiliates and calls on the French government to start a real social dialogue with the unions. A fair, social and inclusive reform must guarantee equality between women and men, consider years of arduous work, education and precariousness and better protect low wage earners.
