Inaugural DHL Africa Alliance meeting sets goals for collective bargaining and union growth

Earlier this month, the DHL Africa Alliance gathered for its inaugural meeting in Nairobi, Kenya.

Participants from ten countries, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Kenya, Mali, Malawi, Nigeria, Sénégal, South Africa, and Tanzania took part in the launch event. Representing 3000 DHL workers from across the continent, the unions, which included Ver.di and Seko, shared best practices and developed an action plan for closer cooperation in the future. The focus was on collective bargaining and union growth, as well as developing tools for sharing information and providing solidarity.

The head of UNI Post and Logistics, Cornelia Broos, said “The DHL Africa Alliance is committed to working with the company to ensure workers’ rights. The commitment of unions such as ver.di and Seko, and all our African affiliates to the cause is inspiring. Together we aim to deliver for DHL workers across the continent.”
