On 9 November, Portuguese cleaners from STAD union in Portugal will be taking industrial action. Cleaners in Portugal have been without a collective agreement for 14 years.

They are fighting for a collective agreement, their rights and their dignity. This includes a 30-50 per cent premium for night work, holiday pay, a Sunday premium and the application of transfer of undertaking.

ISS union representatives from across Europe are supporting Portuguese cleaners in their struggle for a collective agreement and decent pay.

Mark Bergfeld, Director of Property Services at UNI Europa said:

‘It is a disgrace for the European cleaning industry and totally disrespectful towards hard working cleaners that the Portuguese have not had a collective agreement let alone a wage increase for 14 years. We stand with our Portuguese brothers and sisters in demanding dignity.’
