UNI Affiliate JSNGEF Observed International Nursing Day in India

RIMS Union of JSNGEF, affiliated to UNI Care observed the International Nursing Day (IND) on 12 May 2023 at the convention center of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences based in Jharkhand, India. The workshop was attended by 60 key union officials and activists on 11^th May while around 1501 nurses joined the International Nursing Day (IND) function on the 12^th May 2023. 

Hon. Banna Gupta State Health Minister, Jharkhand was the Chief Guest of the ceremony expressed his gratitude to the union activities and assured to create more than 1500 nursing positions at the RIMS for better services to the patients. The RIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) Kameshwar Prasad remembered the value of nurse for the patient, their families and society.  Mr. Sushant Kumar Sahoo Organizing General Secretary, JSNGEF and a union representative to the RIMS Management Board highlighted the workers issues and progress on achievements. 

Prior to the International Nursing Day event, the RIMS union also organized a one-day workshop on “Workers’ Rights and Responsibility in Health Care Sectors” on 11^th May 2023. The workshop featured a distinguished panel of presenters who brought their expertise and experience to the forefront Dr. S.M F. Pasha (Senior Officer, ITUC, Asia Pacific) Mr. Ashok Kumar Singh (General Secretary, JSNGEF) Mrs. Premlata M. (Trikey-RIMS),Mrs. Anjali Bedekar (Director for Equal Opportunity, UNI APRO) & Mr. Tilak Jang Khadka (Organizing & Program Coordinator for Care & Property Services, UNI APRO) 

The workshop focused on various aspects: such as delving into challenges faced by health workers due to COVID-19 crises and its impact on healthcare workers. The rights and responsibilities of health workers in the current scenario around the existing laws and practices that protect the rights of health workers and ensure their safety and well-being. As well as identifying everyday issues of the health care workers and the tactics to improve their working condition. 

The workshop further discussed the need to make the health care sector more sustainable and to provide health workers with the necessary resources and support to carry out their work effectively. Reflecting on the importance of forming a viable and strong union to protect the rights of health workers and discussing strategies to promote decent work in the health care sector.  

Overall, the workshop provided a valuable platform for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing health workers in the current scenario. Ms. Ivy Rani Xalxo , President of RIMS Non Gazetted Employees Union thanked everyone for joining the workshop.
