UNI Asia Pacific Indian Liaison Council and Japan Liaison Council, organized a two-day seminar on labour relations, social dialogue, and union development, held on the 15th and 16th of October 2024 in Hyderabad, was a landmark event bringing together representatives from India and Japan. With a diverse group of participants from different sectors and affiliated unions in India, the seminar had a total participation of 30 attendees. The seminar aimed to foster cross-border collaboration and provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on critical labour-related issues.
The seminar opened with welcoming speeches from Mr. Milind Nadkarni, President, India Liaison Council and Mr. Yutaka Ueda, Head of Delegation-Japan, JPGU and Mr. Sivaji Vasireddy, General Secretary, Indian Liaison Council. Followed by lectures and interactive session by Japanese delegation on the structure of labour unions in Japan, labour-management relations, occupational health & safety, and gender equality.
Participants engaged in group work, comparing union challenges in India and Japan. They shared success stories, explored strategies for company development, and discussed ways to strengthen union organising efforts. The seminar also served as a valuable networking platform, promoting cultural exchange and collaboration. Attendees left with strengthened ties and actionable insights to apply within their unions.
As part of the seminar, the Japanese delegation visited the Hyderabad General Post Office, where they gained a deeper understanding of postal services in India. This visit enhanced their appreciation of the operational challenges and union dynamics within the Indian postal sector, adding a practical dimension to the seminar discussions.
