UNI affiliate, the All-Nepal Security Workers Union (ANSWU), successfully concluded its 4th National Congress held in Kathmandu on 10 September 2022.

The 4th Congress marks the election of a new leadership team helmed by Mr Khagendra Dhimal, newly elected ANSWU President, and Mr Bijay Raskoti as the General Secretary. They lead an 85-strong Executive Committee formed through a very competitive election leading to the Congress.

Mr Khagendra Dhimal said in his acceptance speech, “I am very honoured to be the new President of ANSWU, and I pledge to work with my comrades to address some of the most pressing issues we are confronting as security workers and unionists. This includes advocating for the implementation of contribution-based social security and minimum wage. We also want to resolve the challenges of the G4S security workers as soon as possible. And we aim to achieve all this using social dialogue – whether bipartite, tripartite, or multipartite – to minimise labour disputes in our sector.”

The Chief Guest, Mrs Jaypuri Gharti, Parliamentarian, and Mr Jagat Simkhada, President of All Nepal Trade Union Federation, witnessed the congress proceedings and the election.

The UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary, Rajendra Acharya, conveying his compliments, said, “I congratulate Brother Khagendra Dhimal and his new team on their election. I am fully confident they will work hard to deliver their promises at their 4th Congress. UNI Apro will extend our fullest cooperation to support their organizing efforts on the ground.”
