On October 7, Brazil will be choosing between two models: one that advocates social rights, workers and social peace, and the other that promotes intolerance, racism and machismo with a clear  action plan: continue with reforms that attack the working class and the most vulnerable population.

Despite the incarceration of Lula Da Silva, the most popular candidate for these elections, Marcio Monzane, Regional Secretary of UNI Americas, called on the Brazilian people to return to the path of democracy: “We call on everyone to recover Brazilian democracy”, he said.

“The Workers’ Party (Partido de los Trabajadores) led by Fernando Haddad and Manuela D’Ávila, chosen by Lula, have taken on the responsibility of the workers and are committed to reviewing the labour reform, fighting the power of media corporations and adopting a banking reform. This is why we call on our affiliates to vote for the party that can recover the dignity of our people”, he concluded.

October 7 is World Day for Decent Work, and this year’s global theme is “Change the Rules”.  Change the rules to reinforce the power of workers, change the rules to create decent work for all, change the rules to ensure that people can live with dignity on a sustainable planet.

UNI Americas continues to demand the freedom of Lula and will continue fighting to change the rules of the game in favour of democratic rights and freedoms, and thus continue advancing in favour  of policies that support everyone and not only a privileged elite
