The UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Organization’s 34th Executive Committee Meeting, held in Singapore on 21 and 22 May 2025, adopted a statement of solidarity expressing strong support for the global call to activate ILO Article 33 measures on Myanmar. The issue is scheduled for discussion at the 113th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).
In the statement, the UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Organization Executive Committee reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Myanmar, who continue to suffer the consequences of the military coup that took place on 1 February 2021.
The Committee also expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis, such as the obstruction of aid and the continuation of airstrikes on civilians following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake on 28 March 2025.
The Committee urges all governments, employers’ organizations, and trade unions participating in the 113th ILC, taking place from 2 to 13 June 2025, to vote in favour of Article 33 measures. It also calls on the broader international community, including the United Nations system and bilateral and multilateral actors, to align their policies and actions with any measures adopted under Article 33.
