UNI Global Union finance affiliates in Colombia are today calling for support for a virtual mobilization against BBVA bank.

ACEB and UNEB unions are protesting against layoffs, branch closures, union-busting and a blanket Covid-19 protocol that determines whether or not workers are infected with coronavirus through a telephone assessment.

“The reality of working at BBVA today is that there have been covert layoffs, anti-union policies, announcements of agency closures throughout Colombia, violations of collective bargaining agreements, the casualization of labour and other issues,” said Guillermo Maffeo, Regional Director of UNI Americas Finance. “A serious problem we are fighting to solve is that workers’ health is being compromised during Covid-19, and the company’s occupational health and safety committee is ignoring workers’ representatives; instead they have hired external doctors who determine by telephone if the worker is infected or can go to work.”

UNI affiliates and all supporters are invited to attend the virtual protest at Plaza Bolívar in the Colombian capital, Bogota, through this link: https://manif.app/?lat=4.597958917970571&long=-74.07658874988557&zoom=20&lang=es
