To recognise the critical role that front liners played every day during the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNI MLC and affiliates recently launched a “Fund-for-Front liners” campaign on 15th January.
The fundraising drive concluded successfully yesterday on 9 February. It collected a total amount of RM21,240. Out of which, RM17,840 was canvassed from various unions and RM3,400 came from personal contribution of individual union members and leaders.
Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President UNI MLC, officially handed over today (10 Feb) the funds raised to Sis. Fauziah Bt. Razali, Treasurer of the Malayan Nurses Union (MNU), an affiliate of UNI MLC.
Datuk Shafie said, “The amount is a small gesture but we hope the campaign shows our collective appreciation and solidarity support for the essential workers especially healthcare workers who worked hard to protect our health and lives.”
UNI Apro Regional Secretary Rajendra Acharya praised the initiative saying, “This gesture of solidarity truly shows UNI MLC’s exemplary leadership and is an inspiration that lift the spirits during the pandemic.”
