UNI Affiliate Leader Receives Malaysia’s Trade Union Leader Award for 2023

The UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Organization is proud to share the news of Sister Kamasiah Binti Haji Taiban, President, Sarawak Telekom Malaysia Berhad Workers’ Union (UTES) receiving the Trade Union Leader 2023 (Private Sector Category) award presented by the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia.

Sister Kamasiah received the award from the Minister of Human Resources, YB Tuan V. Sivakumar during the National Trade Union Assembly held in Malaysia’s administrative capital, Putrajaya on Tuesday, 14 November 2023.

The award ceremony was witnessed by more than five hundred trade union leaders from all over Malaysia as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Human Resources, including the YB Datuk Ts. Mustapha Bin Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Human Resources, YBrs Tuan Kamal Bin Pardi, Director General of Trade Unions.

UNI MLC President, Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, congratulating Sister Kamasiah, said, “All of us at UNI MLC are proud and happy to see her receiving this award which is the highest national honour for a trade union leader in Malaysia. Congratulations!”

The UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary Rajendra Acharya praised her achievement and said, “Congratulations Sister Kamasiah! This award affirms both your active leadership role and the status of women as trade union leaders in Malaysia’s union movement.”

Sister Kamasiah is currently the President of UTES, UNI MLC Assistant Secretary for Sabah & Sarawak Affairs, and she is also the UNI MLC Women’s Committee Secretary.
