Orientation On Contemporary Trade Unionism for Sales & Shop Sector Union in Nepal

All Nepal Petroleum, Sales and Shop Workers Union (ANPSSWU) in Nepal recently organized a basic trade union course to its active members on 22 October 2022 at Kathmandu, Nepal. The training was provided to 37 union leaders & activists. During the program, they were oriented on Nepal’s Labour Law, Social Security Law, CBA and unions role in social dialogue and collective negotiations. They were also oriented on organizing tactics and strategies as well as understanding of global trade union solidarity.

The speakers from the All Nepal Federations of Trade Unions, Mr. Yubaraj Luitel- lawyer as a legal expert, decoded the Labour Laws of Nepal.  Mr. Salikram Kafe, provided in-depth information about the Contributory Provisions under the social security plan.  Mr. Shivaraj Pokhare, elaborated on the National Trade Union Federation and its functions and Mr. Tilak Jang Khadka from UNI Asia & Pacific, provided training on global trade unionism, union solidarity and the importance of social dialogue. The training was conducted under the chairmanship of Mr. Chijkumar Dhakal president of All Nepal Petroleum Workers Union.

ANPSSWU expressed confidence that the one-day course would contribute to organizing enterprise-level unions in Petroleum product sales outlets, departmental stores and expanding the union strengthening throughout the nation.
