UNI Apro kicks off the last quarter of 2018 with a series of intense activities starting with the 16th UNI Apro East Asia Postal Unions Forum. The event was organised with the strong support of Japan Postal Group Union (JPGU).
The 16th UNI Apro East Asia Postal Unions Forum, held at Ochanomizu Hotel Juraku, Tokyo, focused on the impact of E-commerce and postal unions responses. Representative unions from postal operators in Japan, Taiwan and Korea gathered to discuss the ways to cope with challenges of increasing volume of items transacted on E-commerce platforms, which inadvertently impacted on postal workers in the form of long working hours exacerbated by a shortage of labour. Concerns over the rise of new technologies were also examined.
Mr. Tomohiro Yonezawa, Senior Executive Vice President (Representative Director) of Japan Post was invited to make a keynote presentation about new technologies in Japan’s postal services.
Bro. Christopher Ng, Regional General Secretary of UNI Apro stimulated the forum with his remarks which emphasized the importance of promoting partnership between labour and the management of Post & Logistics Sector in the Asia and Pacific Region.
The participants from postal unions were also hosted to a special visit to the Shin Tokyo Post Office on 3 October.
