The 5th UNI World Congress adopted a motion on “concentration of the media and cross-media ownership”. With the adoption of the motion, UNI commits to step it’s efforts to promote democratic, inclusive and equal global communication which ensure a diversity of voice in the world.
The motion which was sponsored by the Argentinian affiliates of UNI’s media sector identifies areas of priority and action for UNI in the years to come. An important focus will be put on regulatory work bringing about legislative change that guarantees the presence of all political voices and sectors of society, respect for their cultural identity and for their right to inform the citizens of the world of their social and cultural aspirations and values.
The motion also underlines UNI’s commitment to campaign for the protection of independence and adequate funding of public broadcasting and the promotion of cultural diversity on radio, TV and electronic media.
