On the eve of the UNI World Congress in Liverpool, UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings addressed more than 500 students at “Big Hope 2”, an international gathering of students at Hope University in the city.
Quoting Martin Luther King, Jennings said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Citing the theme of UNI’s World Congress, “Making It Happen”, the UNI GS urged the students to become the leaders of tomorrow and be prepared to take a stand on everything that matters from human rights, through to the environment and the fight for equality and against racism and xenophobia.
Jennings also urged them to join a union and help heal the fractured world. When asked if the task was too daunting he replied with the words of Nelson Mandela, “It always seems impossible until its done.”
