The tireless work of care workers in Argentina was once again recognized by the government.

In a press conference yesterday, Minister of Health Ginés González García was joined by UNI Americas President Héctor Dáer and Minister of Labor Claudio Moroni to announce a 90-day extension of the March executive decree that provided a pay bonus to 700,000 workers, both in the public and private care sectors.

The extension will benefit more care workers than the original, adding geriatrics, ambulance transfer employees, the primary health care sector and clinical analysists.

For Dáer, who is also General Secretary of ATSA, the extension of the bonus to this workforce is a recognition of the hard work that these workers have carried out during the pandemic, being in the frontlines of attending to the most needy. “Our partners are preparing to assist, not to get sick. We have had several infections, some with fatal outcomes, but we have sustained and made our health care system sustainable,” said Dáer.

He also noted that 21 September is  celebrated in Argentina as the “Day of the Care Worker.”

“This will be a different year, in which meetings and physical encounters will not be possible,” he said. Dáer called the citizens to express their solidarity and support for those who are fighting on the front line.
