This 1 May, International Labour Day, workers around the world are confronting many crises—the COVID-19 pandemic; skyrocketing costs of living; the ravages of war; and ever-increasing inequality.
However, there are still plenty of reasons for hope.
In her May Day message, UNI General Secretary Christy Hoffman points to a renewed commitment to transforming standards for workers and repairing societies torn apart by inequalities.
But these changes will not come easily. If we are to “have a world of shared prosperity, not a gold mine for the super-rich,” she says, we must harness technology so it works for all working people. We must build global solidarity. We must demand peace. We must create a new social contract.
And we must organize!
