UNI Global Union stands in solidarity and support for victims of Kenya attack

After the tragic news that at least 21 people were killed at a hotel compound in Nairobi, the UNI Global Union family sent a message of support and solidarity for the victims of this atrocity.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kenya,” said UNI Africa Regional Secretary Keith Jacobs.  “We stand with you at this time when once again your peace is being disturbed by those who have no respect for the lives of fellow human beings.”

“We send our condolences and solidarity to the families who lost loved ones during this heinous attack. Together we will overcome.”

UNI has been organising in Kenya in the security sector, where hundreds of thousands of workers are often on the frontline in these kinds of situations and risk their lives for low pay and work in poor conditions.

Hundreds fled the DusitD2 hotel and business complex on Tuesday after shots were fired.

28 people have been admitted to hospital with injuries and Red Cross Kenya said there were still 19 missing.

Islamist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack.
