More than 35 women from all UNI regions, as well as women from the UNI Africa’s Women’s Committee have come together in the Mother City, Cape Town, on the 16th and 17th of April 2019 for the UNI World Women’s Committee Meeting.
The meeting was opened and chaired by the new UNI World Women’s President, Patricia Nyman from SACCAWU, South Africa; who was joined by guest speakers, Alke Boessiger, Deputy General Secretary for UNI Global Union; Louisa Thipe, President of SACCAWU and Foune Niang, UNI Africa President, amongst others.
A room filled with powerful women who will discuss for the next two days issues such as gender based violence, women’s health, and Future World of Work amongst others.
The UNI World Women’s Committee meeting is more than a statutory meeting. It is an annual gathering of strong trade unionist women who discuss and plan activities and strategies to highlight women’s work for a more equal and just trade union movement.
It is also an opportunity to continue building and strengthening support networks and gather international solidarity to those issues that are important to women workers.
