UNI MLC sets new record with 71 members appointed to Malaysia’s industrial court

Some 71 union leaders from the UNI Malaysia Liaison Council (UNI MLC), a coalition of UNI Global Union affiliates, received their letter of appointment as panel members to Malaysia’s Industrial Court, the country’s tripartite dispute resolution mechanism, in a ceremony on 25 May in the state capital of Selangor.

Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal, President of UNI MLC, thanked the Honourable Minister of Human Resources, Malaysia, for having the confidence and trust to appoint the leaders from UNI MLC to represent workers at the industrial court.

The previous appointments saw 65 union leaders serving the industrial court from 2022 to 2024 and 54 union leaders from 2019 to 2022.

Datuk Shafie, encouraging the new appointees, said, “I hope that all those appointed as panel members will stay true to the fundamental principles of justice, responsibility and integrity when carrying out your duties as panel members.”

UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Secretary Rajendra Acharya applauded the new appointments, and said, “Congratulations to you and all 71 leaders from the UNI MLC family appointed to represent workers as Industrial Court Panel Members. This is a wonderful testament to UNI MLC’s great work in Rising Together to Transform!”
